The intention of these kingdom fasts is to build solidarity among those who are fasting as they remind their bodies (flesh) that their spirits are in charge – and that both body and spirit are to be under the Lordship of Jesus. The hunger or difficulty of going without a good thing serves us to long for the most rewarding and best of all things and all persons – Jesus Himself.
Time.
If it could be bought and sold, it would be the world’s greatest commodity.
It’s something I feel like I’m always running short on. There is a constant struggle in trying to balance the things that compose my daily life: language learning, developing relationships, paperwork, studying and time to relax or have fun.
Lately I have been feeling a little overwhelmed and realized that I need to learn to manage my time better. In the process of looking at my week and how I spend my time, I am noticing how much time I really do waste.
I check social media multiple times a day and often end up scrolling through my newsfeed for half an hour. I click on an Internet article and end up reading about random things that have no bearing or benefit to my life right now.
Another hour gone.
I flip on Netflix after language class, because my brain hurts and wants to zone out. After an hour episode, I convince myself it’s OK to watch another.
Two hours gone.
Technology, in many ways, has made our lives easier and saves us time. However, it can rapidly consume our time if we’re not careful.
During the month of September our fast is screens, which is about giving up all forms of entertainment that can be viewed through an electronic device.
This includes TV, movies, YouTube videos, social media and sports.
We invite you to join us this month and see what God can do in and through you. With the extra time, there is an opportunity to focus it elsewhere. It can be used in more effectively building relationships face to face, reading that book that has been sitting on the shelf for months, or going deeper in God’s Word.
