Tiffany-AdvocateThe LD Challenge of reading and journaling about missionaries in the Muslim world inspired and prepared my heart to encounter the Muslim world myself. After reading and reflecting, I acquired a new perspective and utilized it during my time in Central Eurasia. For example, I tend to put pressure on myself to successfully share the gospel with people and change their hearts. Through this pre-trip prep, I was reminded that only Jesus can change hardened hearts. I have no power to transform – all God expects of me is to obey.

While in Central Eurasia, I was so inspired by the LD team there. They poured their hearts out into us, including their undying love to share the gospel with the local people. They took us out one day to find people to talk to about Jesus. I felt nervous that I would not be capable.  However, one of the LD leaders got so excited because it is her absolute favorite thing to do – to talk about the truth of Jesus in a land where no one believes in Him. In my intimidation, I saw how Jesus wants me to see the gospel and missions work.

Breaking Ground

Take heart and have joy! How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! What better news is there than Jesus’ love and grace?

Through the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, I was able to relate my mom’s testimony to a Muslim woman sitting in a park. They heard the gospel that day and it sure was a beautiful thing.

During my stay along the Silk Road, my eyes were opened to the reality of what faithfulness really looks like. My team and I had the opportunity to stay in a missionary’s home and live life with them for nine days. I absorbed multitudes of incredible and funny stories in a short period of time.

I watched how the missionary family loved God and loved each other even through the darkest of times and places.

One afternoon, our team headed down to a village to meet with some local believers and hear their stories. They shared about how they first encountered Jesus, most often through dreams, while they were practicing Muslims. One believer shared how he was persecuted and threatened that his wife and children would be killed if he pursued Jesus as Lord.

He responded to them by saying, “Then I will have to walk over the dead bodies of my family to follow Jesus.”

Wow. I want to love Jesus that much.
