In Our Rest, God Moves

Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share part of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region and those who God has called to work here.

Yesterday was my sabbath, which I value not just because it is a day “off,” but because it is a day God has blessed for me to rest and process the week, how I feel, where I am at with the Lord, and just abide in His goodness.

I had dozed off for a couple of minutes on our balcony and woke up to three consecutive messages in a row which I knew had to be from a local because they seem to always texts in rounds rather than one long message. I groaned and sighed and said to myself… “I really don’t have the energy to text in another language right now…” But I shoved away the feeling and looked at my phone, and I am really thankful I did.

My dear friend “Kate”, who isn’t yet a believer, wrote to me the following: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33).’ I was watching a show today, and it mentioned that verse, so I opened the Bible and read it. It is so wonderful, I was so happy.”

My eyes got wide, and I instantly texted her back (it had been several minutes of fighting the urge to doze off before looking at my phone) and thanked her for sharing that with me, that it had blessed me deeply.

Today I reached out to her again to schedule some language learning time which is something I do with her weekly, and she again mentioned that she had been reading the Bible and that verse.

She said that she had asked God to show her something to read, a page- and He had.

Then she told me that she had taken a driver’s test later that day and passed, and knew that it was from God! I told her I believe that also and that I know God is showing Himself to her and calling her. We talked about several other verses about God waiting at the door for us to invite Him in. She agreed with this idea wholeheartedly. Then she made me cry as she said “Today I will read the Bible again, and I will pray for you.”

Will you pray for my friend Kate? Will you pray she falls in love with the God of the Bible, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit? I am praying this woman who is so hungry and desperate for truth finds out the only truth is through our Jesus Christ. Will you join me in prayer for this?

What I love about this story is that in our resting in the presence of God, He is still working and moving on our behalf. As I dozed in the sunshine on a sabbath spent with Him, He was whispering His love to my sweet friend. I am overwhelmed by His kind faithfulness to those who love Him. Let us bring Kate before the Lord as He calls her name.
