I Guess I’m Not Like Other Muslims

Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share part of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region and those who God has called to work here.
It had been a crazy week. I was in language class from 8am to 4pm every day. On Thursday, I was rushing out of class to make it home before our English Conversation Club that night, when my phone rang. The next thing I know, I find myself turning on a dime and racing to a coffee shop to meet with one of my Turkish “aunties” in the small window of time I had.
Exhausted, I shot up a prayer to the Lord: “Jesus, if she wants to talk about spiritual things, please let her be the one to bring them up today.”
My auntie and I had talked about faith in Jesus Christ many times. She was even reading the New Testament I had given to her and her daughter. Missing for her was the realization and the coming to terms with her sin and need for a savior.
As I brought our strong black coffees over, we began catching up. Before I knew it, she is telling me about what she recently read in the New Testament and reminding me of her own set of beliefs about life, God and the Universe. After speaking for quite a while she pauses and looks around.
“You know, I guess I’m not really like other Muslims, am I? I don’t really believe what they believe.”
After encouraging her to continue to read the bible, the conversation came to a natural close. I walked away praising God. Many experiences show that Muslims need eight to ten touch points with God, believers in Jesus, the Bible, and the Gospel before they are ready to make a decision for Christ.
What a joy it is to watch someone take a step closer to the Resurrection and the Life.
