Hungry for Truth: Part I

Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share part of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region and those who God has called to work here.

Recently some of my teammates and I met up with a woman who wants to study the Bible because, she says, she is looking for truth.

We have met with this woman several times, and during our second meeting her friend was there. We kept bringing up God in attempts to steer the conversation in a spiritual direction, but her friend did not seem interested in talking about anything spiritual- at all.

Even though we had a wonderful time with her and further deepened our relationship, I left our meeting that day wondering what we were missing. We decided to go back the next week, and the night before we went we prayed for her to be hungry for the Word and for her questions to be answered.

When we got there the next day, her friend was there again, and I felt frustrated; however, we had come with sweets, smiles, and the promise of knowing that we had prayed and now it was in God’s hands to make a way. We chatted, laughed, and kept bringing up God.

About two hours later her friend left, and our friend immediately came over to us and with an expectation in her eyes because she knew we desired to share with her. We asked her if she would like to study the Bible with us and she said, “Yes, let’s do it!”

We had in our hands a lesson printed out in her native language on how to start studying the Bible for the first time in a culturally-sensible way. She grabbed the papers from us and proceeded to read them all out loud, verses and all, including a full description of what it means and what one must do to follow Jesus. She stopped here and there and asked amazing questions that the Holy Spirit alone gave us answers for.

When it was all over, we had quite a wonderful heart to heart where she talked about how she understood that she could choose either God or the enemy.

We prayed together, and she got on her knees on the floor of the store as we prayed. We prayed fervently together the Jesus would show Himself to her as the one true God and that she would understand this truth.

Will you join us as we pray for a powerful encounter that will lead to her believing Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that no one comes to God except through Him?
