Liz recently graduated from college with a degree in intercultural studies. She knows how to hold her own, whether it be at home among her 6 brothers, or on stage leading worship.
When I was a freshman in college, Dick Brogden came to my Bible College to speak to the students during one of our chapel services.
He was intense, full of the Holy Spirit, and he challenged us as a student body in incredible ways.
Out of the many speakers of that school year, Dick is one that I will always remember because of the way that he challenged me to live my own life.
Dick and members of his team follow the Live Dead initiative on a daily basis. This initiative includes a commitment to spend 2 ½ hours a day with the Lord. In a fast-paced world, that is a lot of time to give up! When he proposed the Live Dead challenge, I knew that God was leading me to commit to it. I apprehensively accepted the challenge, because I knew that the sacrifice I was committing to was one that would be extremely difficult. However, I obeyed even though I had no idea what God had in store.
There are times in our lives when we are hit with hard facts that change our hearts forever.
I grew up in church, and constantly heard of Jesus and the Bible. I always knew that Jesus loved me, protected me, and had a future for my life. Sadly, it wasn’t until recent years, especially when I read from the Live Dead journals, that I realized the horrific truth that there were so many people in this world who have never heard the name of Jesus. When I first found out about the Live Dead initiative, there was something that clicked inside my heart and I knew that God was beginning to stir something great inside of me. There was something about the leaders and team members that caused me to rethink my idea of what “missions” really means to the Lord.
Beautiful Feet
Romans 10:13-15 puts it simply, “For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”
How truly beautiful are the feet of those who bring the Good News to the dark corners of this earth.
They carry a Light with them that cannot be put out. They hold a Truth that sets the captives free.
Upon the acceptance of the Live Dead challenge, I had no idea that God was going to burden my heart for Muslim people across the world—especially in Central Eurasia. But God revealed to me that as soon as we sacrifice our precious moments to Him, He is able to do wondrous things with our lives.
