Abadi – Community

Take a prayer walk with us through nine cities of Iran. We will highlight for you the physical dynamic of water and its correlated spiritual meaning. We look to the Source of living water to fill the thirsty hearts of Iranians this Nowruz season!
Abadi
The history of Iran reveals that when a water source is discovered, communities grow around it. The Persian word for “water” is “ab,” and the word for “community” is “abadi.” Since we all need water, a water source brings us together. Isn’t it interesting how the concept of community is closely connected to the concept of water?
If anyone is thirsty, he should come to me and drink. The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him. (John 7:37-38)
Mashhad is considered the holy community of Shia Islam. It centers around a shrine of a man called Imam Reza. Many people come every year to make a pilgrimage to the shrine hoping for a physical healing or a blessing for a better life. Yet, living water is not found in the shrine of a dead man, but in the Living Son of God! Let’s pray a true community of Christ will flow in the streets of Mashhad. May this community center around Jesus Christ.
“Jesus, You are alive and living ever flows from You and Your followers. We pray for Your church in Mashhad, Your community, that it will be a stream of Your living water to others. We pray that as the pilgrims come to Mashhad to find hope and spiritual status, they instead would find You. Jesus, let Your church be bold and not hidden!”
Prayer Points
- For Jesus’ “abadi” to be bold and let themselves be used as a stream of Living Water to the spiritually thirsty near them.
- For the spiritually thirsty pilgrims to recognize TRUE Living Water, and not be satisfied at the cold remains of a man.
- Thank Jesus that He is alive and working in Iran to bring many to salvation.
