Beyond Hospitable

“Welcome to China!  Please come to our home tonight!”

We had met April and her mother while living in China and teaching at the local school.  April’s mother Mae had invited us over to dinner multiple times during the school year and we quickly became good family friends.  Many times during the year April’s family helped us get used to living in a foreign country by telling us how to buy certain things, showing us the best markets in town and made our stay so much better.

A year later April began attending college in the US.  We had been back stateside for a couple months and we found out April was attending the college in our city!  Without hesitation we contacted her and made sure she was doing fine and asked if she needed any help.  One night we invited her over to my families for dinner and after a prayer April said how happy her heart was in our home.

Thousands of Chinese come to the US every school year and are faced with the struggle and frustration of adapting to a culture entirely different from their own.  What a testimony to our faith we can have when we invite these students into our homes where they can feel God’s love and begin life changing relationships!

Please consider being that person who will cross the divide and be a light to the foreigner in our country like April’s family was to us.
