Choral
Since 2011, in addition to introducing people to Jesus and creating His community, we have looked after 24 boys and girls who were either orphaned, abandoned, or abused. We scholarship most of the children to attend college; those that attend a nearby college are able to work part time in our café. Working in the café gives them practical experience and money to spend on phones, clothes, and with friends.
One of the older girls from the home, Choral, went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in business after she graduated from high school. She has such a friendly, outgoing personality and is smart and well-spoken. Yet, while working part time at the café, she was under-utilizing her people skills and leadership talents. The university that Choral attends holds a job fair the week before graduation. Recruiters from all types and sizes of companies are there to hold job interviews and offer positions to the graduating students. Choral was the number one recruit for Mahindra, a massive auto manufacturer, but she declined the offer!
When I heard the news, I was shocked, annoyed, and frustrated. “Why would she turn down this opportunity? We spent so much on her education,” I thought. Something didn’t add up. I waited for my patience to return before I spoke to her as I sensed that something else was happening in her life. At the same time, our team wanted to expand the café and start another Jesus-centered community. The idea was still in the works, but I sensed Jesus leading all of us in this moment.
Finally, I had the opportunity to speak with her: “Choral, we would like to start another café in another location to create Jesus community.” Now, based on her past work, I didn’t think she was interested in being with us and I wasn’t even sure I wanted her to continue, but I pressed forward. “Would you like to continue to work with us and participate in Jesus’ work?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed without hesitation.
Immediately, Choral’s work in the café changed. She started to take initiative. She started to lead others. Now, she is fully prepared to be the lead manager for our second café. And even more important than managing a café, Choral wants to participate in Jesus’ work—she sees her life as His and not her own.
Choral wants to participate in Jesus’ work—she sees her life as His and not her own.
Every believer is called to go
Whether to your neighbor across the street or to the nations across the world. At Live Dead, we exist to take the good news of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard in the countries that have limited to no access to this good news. We seek to mobilize advocates, both individuals and churches, to pray, speak, give, and go for the sake of unreached people groups. How will you join us in this work?
