Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share part of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region and those who God has called to work here.

A picture can take you right back; it can take you right back to a specific place and a specific people.

I just ran across an old photo of me holding my youngest child in our landlord’s home in our little village that we used to live in along the Silk Road. We rented from our landlord for two years. Every month we would hand deliver our rent to her and would spend hours chatting over tea and sometimes even a meal.

In this photo I ran across, I was holding my infant daughter and our landlord insisted on two things- that my baby was well bundled and that I was not leaning against a cold wall. So, in this photo, I’m all wrapped in a blanket with my daughter held tight, leaning on a cushion, and trying to not overheat.

How often did we call out her name, asking the Holy Spirit to move in her life? We didn’t know how effective those prayers had been until recently!

Friends of ours who served with us in this remote nation told us that both our landlady and her husband are followers of Jesus- praise the Lord! He accepted Jesus on his deathbed, and she soon followed his example and put her faith in Jesus. We believe God ordains all the details- even the connections with those we rent from.
