Ramadan

Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share a snapshot of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region.

It’s 8:33 in the evening and I’ve just stepped off the bus. On my short walk home, I find the streets of one of the largest cities in the world are empty, silent. I listen harder and through apartment windows opened to let in the spring breeze, I hear the clink of forks on plates and glasses on tables. The city breaks the fast.

It’s 2:27 in the morning and I awake abruptly at the sound of pounding drums outside my window. My heart races, confused, but eventually the sound dies off in the distance. As I try to fall back asleep, it starts again, the sound of my neighbors’ forks clinking against their plates, tea kettles singing. The drummers awake the city to eat before the dawn comes and the fast continues.

In one beat of the heart I rejoice for the freedom I have in Christ, that I do not have to earn His affection, love or gift of salvation.

In the next, I crumble, devastated that those around me walk in hopelessness, never sure if they have successfully done enough to pay off their sins, never sure of their eternity—a people without the hope of the cross and resurrection of Christ.

Every day our team is out on the streets using this season of Ramadan to share the liberating gospel of Christ with Muslims. We too pray and fast, that God would reveal Himself to these people and there would be a quickening in the awakening of this nation to Christ.

We pray that as they fast and pray, those who are truly seeking would find Christ, that Jesus would reveal Himself in dreams and visions.

Last Thursday, a handful of us went out sowing (sharing the message of Christ) and were able to present the gospel to six people who had never heard it before. Though they were not ready to accept, we were able to begin to see the Holy Spirit open their eyes and give them revelations of truth. We pray that the Holy Spirit would move in these lives, that they may be changed for eternity!

Though the climate is heavy in this Ramadan season of feasting and fasting, we believe God is moving and speaking to hearts, even through the clinking of forks on plates and glasses on tables. May the Lord reveal Himself among the Muslim world.
