Lost and Found

Have you heard the expression “Boots on the Ground?” Well our Live Dead Missionaries are the boots on the Silk Road. Here we’d like to take a moment and allow one of them to share a snapshot of their life with you. Some names and details have been changed, but this is a true story from this colorful, vibrant, and sometimes surprising region.

We had successfully made it to the end of the week leading a short-term team. It was a great week. We saw God do some incredible things through this team, and we were feeling pretty good. No one had gotten lost, only a couple of them got mildly sick, and as we were within minutes of parting ways at the airport, we figured we had passed the point of all possible things that could go wrong. But as God never misses an opportunity to help us release control and learn to trust Him yet again, He had one more thing up His sleeve for this group.

Just as the last student was about to make his way to check in for the flight, he realized he was missing his passport. He was missing his whole wallet, as a matter of fact. Suddenly the dream of going home and crashing on our beds after a long week, became just a little postponed. Hearing the news, the rest of the group huddled and prayed while we retraced our steps. Carefully watching the ground, we went from one lost and found to another, finally getting to the one that held the highest hope of helping us. I explained that he might have left his wallet on the plane, so we gave our flight information, sat and waited. After a long fifteen minutes, we saw an arm extend through the tiny help window, black velcro wallet in hand! We rejoiced and I sent a message to the group sitting at check in. All of us breathing sighs of relief, we laughed saying God just wanted to give us one more good story before the week officially ended.

But God didn’t stop there. One of the girls on the team had a rough week. She gets motion sickness, which makes for a lovely time when you’re in a city with public transportation that is anything but smooth. On top of general ill-feeling, as the week progressed she began feeling attacked spiritually, feeling down and questioning why she was there. When the message got to the group that the wallet had been found, she started to cry.

“God told me in my quiet time this morning that He was going to show me how He answers prayer today,” she told everyone.

Suddenly everyone got a little teary-eyed. How God cares about every little detail! Even after a week of seeing Him literally open doors for these students to share His Good News with local university students, what really blows me away is His loving-kindness in showing us He hears our little heart cries. Great is His faithfulness.
