Shannon has been a children’s pastor for 10 years. She has traveled to five different countries and is married to a Kenyan man.
At the age of five, I made the decision to ask Jesus to be in my life. I had no idea the impact this decision would have on the rest of my life. At thirteen, I rededicated my life to fully live for Jesus–no matter what.
This set me on a journey overseas. I went on my first overseas trip, at the age of thirteen, to the island of Grenada. It changed me forever, as Jesus radically expanded my view.
While on a recent trip, I got to spend time with a Live Dead team. Every Friday this Live Dead team gets together to fellowship and pour into one another. I volunteered to be the speaker for that evening. As I spent the week preparing, I asked the Lord: “What do you want to say to this team?” I wasn’t even sure I felt qualified to share–I kept thinking, “This team really loves Jesus more than me!”
God Answers
Due to jet lag, the Lord gave me the answer to my question at 2 A.M. one morning. He gave me this verse from Mark: “And whenever those possessed by evil spirits caught sight of him, the spirits would throw them to the ground in front of him shrieking, ‘You are the Son of God!'” Mark 3:11 (NLT). At 2 A.M. this was not what I was expecting! I thought, “This is stupid, how is this supposed to encourage the team?” Of course, I thought that before I allowed the Lord to explain.
His response was, “I have made every person–body, soul, and spirit. Those who are lost have a spirit that is crying out for the Son of God. Those who have decided to follow Him are carriers of Him. Jesus didn’t have to identify himself to those possessed, what was inside of them already knew.”
While the lost may not be vocally crying out for the Son of God, they are on the inside.
Even when we don’t speak words to them, our living in Christ is speaking to them. While there are times for words, Paul said, “To live is Christ.” The inside of a lost person’s spirit is shrieking for Christ, shrieking to be saved.
While hanging out with this Live Dead team, I was impacted by a story of one of the team members. While shopping she was asked by a man, very passionate about his own religion, why she doesn’t just convert to Islam. Her equally passionate, but simple, response was, “I just love my Jesus too much to.” Her story has given me a revived passion.
To live is Christ, and I carry His glory.
I want a person’s inside to cry out, “Son of God!” because that is Who my spirit carries.
