I have been here in Central Eurasia for almost a year. I don’t even know where to begin on describing this year and what it has meant to me.

My husband and I were called to the field in a very unique way. He was called while here in Central Eurasia on a short-term team. He fell in love with this country and the people. While I was on the other side of the globe, I felt that same tug on my heart. I knew God was calling us to something great. I just had no idea what the country was like and what I was being called to.

This year has been one of the most challenging years, and it has also been one of the most life changing and stretching years. Learning a new language, culture, people, and even food are just some of the things that you go through. One of the biggest things I took away from this year is to learn how to become more dependent on God. I have learned that just because you are doing what God has called you to do doesn’t mean its going to be easy. Some weeks are harder than others. There are weeks where you will go out and share the gospel over and over again and only get “no” as a response and that makes you so discouraged. Then there are other weeks where you will meet people who want to hear more about the gospel, and they will welcome you into their homes and you will think these are some of the friendliest people you have ever met. You learn to love people who you don’t even know. You learn to see these people through Gods eyes. With that, you feel the desperation of how urgent it is to share the gospel.

One big take away that I have learned from this year is that I can do it! In 2 Timothy 1:6-7, it says, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

I am someone who is more on the introverted side and the thought of talking to random people made me nervous. What made me even more nervous was talking to them in a language I was just beginning to learn. This verse is one I held onto all year. God’s presence and spirit is not timid or introverted; it’s bold and has confidence. I began to pray and realize that with God I can do this. He has given me opportunities to connect with people who I never thought I would be able to connect with.

God has showed me time and time again that He is faithful and with me always. Going out to share with people has been very stretching for me and sometimes I didn’t want to go out, but the bottom line is that these people need Jesus. I’m here to share truth to as many people as I can. It is a huge honor that God has called me to, and I don’t take it lightly.

Becoming a missionary is never easy and always challenging. But what God does in your life is truly incredible. You become so dependent on Him that it changes your life. God has opened my eyes to so many things and has answered so many prayers this year.
